From Marie of the Sacred Heart to Thérèse

January 8, 1889

Dear little daughter, my heart is filled with sweet things that I don't have time to tell the little lamb. After having really tried us, we could say that Jesus is pleased to give us joy. Everybody is joyful; they are talking of nothing but the nuptials of this little Queen. A real Queen! who has received the most magnificent jewels that any queen has ever received. Oh! yes, the King of heaven has treated His little fiancée royally. Ah! on the day of her espousals, let her ask for very special graces for the dear patriarch who is so much loved by Jesus! Let her beg Him that he may not have a relapse as he did before; let her beseech Him, let her embrace Him, let her hold Him so tightly against her heart until He has said: "Yes, I have answered you!"

With regard to my little daughter's blond hair which will fall under the scissors on that day, do you know what I thought which was sweet? In the Canticle of Canticles, it is said: "You have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse, by one of your eyes, and by one of your hairs." 1 thought that my little lamb's hair would delight still better the Heart of Jesus! For she will give it without counting the cost.

And countless treasures up above also!!!. . . will be given to her in exchange!
