From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - January 29th 1935
V + J! From our monastery in Caen this 29th January 1935
To my increasingly beloved little sisters,
I’m quickly taking advantage of Father Travert’s long-awaited visit to tell you how touched I am by all your treats, pictures, and other delightful objects, which are more beautiful every time. But above all I thank you for your Communions, which are the most precious treasure of all, and also for your dear letters. What a feast they are for my poor little soul! Ah, darling little sisters, I couldn’t live without you. However I can say in all truth that I am very happy in my vocation.
Darling Céline, I’m very much hoping to see your new painting to tide me over until you give us a copy of it when it’s published. What a funny world we live in! Fancy mistaking Thérèse for the Virgin Mary! She has never been seen dressed as a Carmelite.
I forgot to thank you for sending us the report of revered Sister Marie of Jesus’ jubilee celebrations. It was most interesting! We were pleased to notice that everything took place in much the same way as here. Is it not delightful to see how similar our two Orders are in terms of spirit? Our family celebrations always bear the seal of the most unaffected simplicity, and this is very pleasing to Our Lord.
Yes, I am indeed in good health, although when I’m resting, I shake like the little old woman I am; it’s a nervous shiver. What about you, beloved little Mamma? Have you recovered from your dizzy spells caused by all that overwork?
In heaven, there’ll be no more of all that and we shall be cured of any pain. In the meantime, blessed be God for everything! I send you all my love
