Dear Aunt,

The littlest of your daughters feels powerless to tell you again of her affection and all the prayers she is offering for you. However, a mother's heart easily divines what goes on in her child's soul, so, dear little Aunt, I shall not try to express these sentiments which you have known for a long time.

This year, God filled my heart with a very sweet consolation by recalling my dear Father from his exile. When I go over in my mind the sorrowful years just passed, my soul is overflowing with gratitude. I cannot regret the sorrows that are passed and that have completed and embellished the crown God intends to place soon on the venerable head of him who loved and served Him so faithfully....

And then these sorrows have taught me to understand better the treasures of tenderness hidden in the heart of the dear relatives whom God has given me.. .. "The most beautiful masterpiece of God's Heart is the heart of a mother.” I am experiencing how true this saying is, and I thank the Lord for having made me have this sweet experience.

Dear little Aunt, I assure you, though you have a maternal heart for us, your little daughter has one that is very filial, so she is begging Jesus to bestow on you all the favors of which a child's heart can dream for its dear mother. Frequently, only silence can express my prayer, however, this divine Guest of the Tabernacle understands all, even the silence of a child's soul filled with gratitude!...

Though I shall not be present on dear Aunt's feast day, my heart will really be near her, and no one will give her more tenderness than I.

I beg you, dear Aunt, to kiss good Uncle and my dear little sisters for me.

I leave you, dear Aunt, while remaining united to you as a daughter to her mother.

Your child who loves you,

Sister Thérèse of the Child Jesus rel. carm. ind.
