From Marie (Marie of the Sacred Heart) to her father Mr. Martin – January ? 1888

Dear Father.

I would very much like to have a word with you; if you could come to the Carmel I would like that. Don’t be afraid, no bad news can come from this little earthly paradise, which is almost celestial…

If I had the time I would once more sketch you the charms of this delicious panorama that soothes the heart … For this is the one that can only be explained and understood by those who see it with their [v°] own eyes and above all savour it deep in their souls. Do you remember the one of Paris? (with Marie and Pauline from 17th June to 2nd July 1878.) What wonders we saw there! Any more beautiful and we would have thought we were in Heaven! I won’t say what Napoleon said: “I know men” but I know nothing of the earth… and very crafty would be whoever tried to tempt me!... Forever in my blessed nest! It’s so good here..

Your as yet not very bright diamond!
