From Mme Martin to her brother Isidore

January 5, 1864

We received your letter yesterday. It was a little late in coming; we were hoping it would arrive for the 1st of January. I was beginning to be very annoyed with you, and I felt you were ungrateful.

Everyone is well. Louis sends you his kindest regards. Little Pauline is always cute and boisterous at the same time. Little Léonie is not coming along very well; however, she’s not sick. Marie is above average and already she’s beginning to spell moderately well. She received, along with her sisters, beautiful gifts from the young ladies who are always very pleasant, but they hardly think of you! So much for their opinion!

I wish you, my dear Isidore, good health, a happy life and paradise at the end of your days.
