From Mme Martin to Mme Guérin

June 21, 1871

… Monday I went to Le Mans, and the little girls were very happy, as you can imagine. We went for a walk a large part of the time despite the rain. In the end, we had a very good day, and I didn’t leave until eight o’clock.

I told my sister about my problem regarding Léonie’s studies. She thought about it and said, “I have to try.” She found the Mother Superior and asked to take the little girl and look after her until the vacation. So Léonie has been at the Visitation Monastery for several days with her sisters. She was delighted to go. I hope they’ll be able to keep her. Since I know that she’s in such good hands and, on my side, I see myself so calm, it seems like I’m in Heaven.
