From Mme Martin to Mme Guérin

May 13, 1873

I regret not having written to you on Sunday to tell you about Marie. However, I’m very busy today, but I’m upset for having neglected you. I’m putting everything aside to tell you that our patient is much better. She’s beginning to recover. At noon, she ate a piece of meat without bread, and it didn’t hurt her.

She still had a slight fever in the afternoon, but very slight. I hope that a week from now she’ll be up part of the day. It’s a shame I’m in such a hurry. I’ve had so much to tell you. This morning I received a letter from my sister who speaks about you a lot.

Goodbye, my dear sister. Hug your little ones for me and big Isidore as well!
