From sr Agnès to Céline - November About 25 (?), 1891.
J.M.J.T. Little Céline, We are praying to the Holy Face for you! Your little note yesterday was sad! Don’t be sad, my petit Célin1, God loves you so much and you love him just as much back! When one loves and is loved infinitely, is it still permitted to be sad? We have just received the canvas, it [1 v°] seems lovely but is the size of a house (the canvas, which was intended for an Assumption for the Augustine sisters in Bayeux, was about 2 metres high – it can still be seen in the chapel of the Hôtel-Dieu hospital), don’t tire yourself out whatever you do! I’m looking forward to seeing this beautiful Blessed Virgin emerge from your brush… But you know you have plenty of time. It’s for the month of May next year… There are more pressing things in the meantime!... (Send us back the boxes and wrapping paper when you can).
[2 r°] Farewell my petit Célin… whom I love so much! Mother Geneviève was worse at the beginning of the week (she would receive the last sacraments for the third time on 25th November), now she is better and despite everything she expects to die on Friday! One can tell she is convinced of it… But don’t say anything to Uncle before her prophecy comes true, how happy our holy Mother is! I find her face is imbued with celestial peace, one can sense that the port is nigh!
Your little sister Agnès of Jesus u.c.n.
