From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – January 21st 1935
V + J! From our monastery in Caen this 21st January 1935
To my increasingly beloved little Mamma,
Although I am in exile out of love for Jesus, who is everything to us, my love is already redolent of the Heavenly Homeland, and is eternal. Therefore I need to express it to you again on this your feast day, which is so dear to my heart. Jesus, who is ineffable happiness and now our daily bread, will tell you infinitely better than I can that which I in my inadequacy cannot express. He is in the bouquet of five Communions that I offer you today in payment of all my mounting debts. I thank you in advance for the surprises you have sent me for my feast day. I haven’t seen anything. Faithful to your instructions, our dear Mother won’t show me the gifts until the 28th; it’s the torture of Tantalus! Yet I know that your blue banknotes are going to allow us to have a feast here to celebrate the solemnity of our holy Founder. We don’t know how to thank you for the limitless kindness you show your little Visitandine in Caen. She in turn is very affectionately united to her dearest little Carmel of Lisieux.
I am delighted with your dear Chaplain’s article in the Annals supplement. He’s such a holy Priest! His annual visit brings me great pleasure. He didn’t come in 1934, and was sorely missed.
I can’t think of anything else to say, other than the same old thing, which is that I love you, darling little Mamma. I love you and our two beloved little sisters. You are indispensable in my struggle to bear exile.
Once again, best wishes for a happy feast day from myself and our most loving little Sr Joseph-Marie,
Your little sister and child,
