From sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – June 6, 1941

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 6th June 1941

Darling little Mamma,

How thoroughly you’ve spoiled me! Now here’s a surprise; cocoa and flour shells. What you won’t think of next to bring us pleasure! I could cry, because you deprive yourselves for us. It’s all the more touching given the current food shortage, and much more meritorious as well.

What delightful pictures you sent us. I assure you they are a big success here. I’ve given one to the dear Chaplain because he is one of the family now. It would have been better if I hadn’t written on the back of it; I ruin everything with my ugly handwriting. Beloved little Mamma, I beg of you, tell our distant Brother how happy I was with the precious blessing of our matchless Angelic Pastor. It is too great an honour for someone who feels so unworthy.

Mamma Lamb told me I will be buried in the crypt beside our other revered Mother Superiors, and that she in turn will join me there. Yes, there’s nothing I’d like more, but may it be as late as possible. This decision of the Council encourages me to embrace my insignificance even more.

I’m devouring Mamma’s letters. They will bring God great glory. – I’m delighted at the prospect of your Turn Sisters’ visit. Would they mind bringing us some braid for sachets and relic cloth?

With my love to little Céline, my inseparable sister, and to you, little Mamma,

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
