In carmel
Thérèse had a vocation, to leave her family, to leave the world to live in Carmel, “The desert where God wanted me to go also to hide myself.” (Ms. A, 26r°). This desert, already known through Pauline and Marie, who entered it in 1882 and 1886. What was this Carmel? Not one of the very first convents founded in the traces of the Carmelites from Spain. A hardworking foundation that had just reached the age of 50 years, established in Lisieux in 1838 by Carmelites from Poitiers, a convent that came from the first convent of Paris. A short distance between the Buissonets and Carmel. But between these two places of life, what a difference! |
