Dear Céline
Our Mother is sending you the New Year gifts for the servant and maid so that you can give them to them personally. The manger is for the servant’s little boy and the rest for the maid (the Guérins’ maid, since Céline was living with her uncle and aunt).
When they have the opportunity to come to the Carmel, would you mind sending back the wooden box? Happy New Year darling [v°] little sister, and again Happy New Year…
Who can say what gifts Jesus gives us hidden under the mysterious veil of suffering! We shan’t know until we’re in heaven!...
Your sister who loves you
M. of the S. Heart
When you give the ball of wool etc. to the maid, you would do well to wrap everything up, it looks more expensive.
