Beloved little sister,

I’m sending you the song we sung for Sr Madeleine. First there were the impromptu verses in front of a painting by Sr M. of the H.S. [Sr Marie of the Holy Spirit] (a watercolour for the nurse), which is a copy of a picture by Boumard in which the Bl. Virgin is aiding a sick person. The sick person is a Carmelite nun in our painting! Have I given you enough details?

I don’t know whether we replied to your question concerning Madam de Castelnau. She hardly ever writes to us now (she is ill I think) but we have fond memories of her.

As for these events, what dreadful times! It is so sad and humiliating for France! Still, let us pray and become holier. We can do nothing else and it is better than moaning.

To return to Sr Madeleine’s feast day, after the impromptu verses that I just told you about, we sung the verses on sainthood. They contain all my thoughts on the subject, and Fr Dubosq told me that it was very accurate, so you can believe me.

Goodbye, dear little sister. After the sermon in verse that you will read, I have nothing to add.

Actually I do, I have to tell you that I wrote to the Mother Superior of St Martha [the hostel] near the Vatican, where our Sisters and your Turn Sister will stay. She will give them a room with 3 beds. They won’t be in a dormitory like the other pilgrims. The dear Mother is happy to do me this kindness.

With that, I send you my love and sign off.

Your little sister, who loves you dearly

Sr Agnes of Jesus
