                               Dear little Jeanne,

We are wondering what has become of you and whether you are going to be gallant and attend the wedding. You are very right; it is a chore, one that we have been spared. However, this year is going to be very busy for us with many receptions and celebrations. And as you know, celebrations on earth are costly, because to profit from them we must sacrifice our outer peace and tranquility.

Yet when such things are accepted graciously, it is pleasing to God and saves souls for Him.

Little Jeanne, I’m writing to you today to tell you that on the 19th, the anniversary of our dear Aunt’s death, we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of our very devoted and kind Sr Madeleine of Jesus. She would like it if you wrote her a little note. She loves our family dearly, and she never forgets any of our dear relatives’ anniversaries, so she deserves this kindness, I’d say.

If you send some tins, Sr Marie of the Sacred Heart would like some beans, but you really don’t need to give us anything.

I send you my love, darling little sister

                                   Sr G.
