Darling little sister,

Happy and Holy New Year! There goes another one into the abyss of eternity! It has been a year of graces and a year of glory for God, for He has manifested his mercy and power by raising his humble little creature to the honour of the altars because she loved him very much.

Now he is making use of her to make himself known to a great number of hearts in order to bring them back to Him.

Our Mother has just told me that in her letter to you she says I have rheumatism in my knee. I wouldn’t have mentioned it because it’s not worth it, inasmuch as it isn’t serious, just troublesome. So don’t worry about that, dear little sister. It’s no doubt for my own good that our little saint turns a deaf ear when I ask her to cure me. I often tell myself that it’s such a pleasure being at the Carmel, because we are constantly surrounded with care and consideration.

The bell for Compline will ring any minute. I’ll write again soon, darling little sister. Whatever you do, don’t worry about me. I am very well, it’s just that to help me progress in humility and perfection, I must use a walking stick in the morning. And this will amuse you a little; a few weeks ago, when I prayed to Thérèse for my healing, she had this stick passed to me through the grille by the large Reliquary to show me that it was God’s will for me to keep my little frailty.

I send you fond kisses, darling little sister. Remember me to your dear Mothers. Your eldest sister

Sr M. of the S. Heart
