Darling little sister,

So tomorrow it will have been half a century since you took your first Communion!!!

We are so close to the eternal Communion! So let’s spend our last days in thanksgiving for all that God has given us. You read all about the Canonisation in Rome in “La Croix” newspaper. Your dearest Mother Prioress must have read it out to you.

In the visiting room on Wednesday evening we heard our chaplain Father Germain. He had just come back from the spectacular celebrations and said his emotions were indescribable; he was overwhelmed. He wasn’t able to stay to the end of the pilgrimage, but he appeared happy about this, preferring, he said, to leave with the heavenly impression of the wonderful festive atmosphere still fresh in his mind.

Now, little sister, I must tell you that Our Mother and I were very disappointed when we received the bill from dear Mrs Lecourt. It was I who had gone to the visiting room and I advised her to spare no expense for your dinner, thinking she would know more about such things than us. However, I said, “You will need 8 chickens for the Community.” But she only bought 5 and 6 tins of peas!! We are sorry I assure you, for you must have had meagre servings. Please present our sincerest apologies to your dear Mother Prioress. Our Mother had been delighted at the thought of providing a fine dinner for you but it was quite measly.

I almost forgot to tell you that Fr Germain brought us a really pretty little gold cage containing the two little doves that were presented during the Offertory at the Pope’s Mass. Rev. Fr Rodrigue wanted to give him the little bird cage but wasn’t able to attend to it. We were delighted with it.

Farewell, beloved little sister. Sr Geneviève can’t write to you today, but you know that she loves you with all her heart, as do I.

Your eldest sister

Sr Marie of the S. Heart

I’m sending you something I think you’ll like from our darling Mother.

Remember me to your dear Mothers.

P.S. by Rev. Mother Agnes of Jesus. Happy first Communion jubilee, beloved little sister! Remember that on that day you held our Thérèse in your arms. She says so in her manuscript. I didn’t publish that bit… Now she is the one holding you and leading you to heaven.
