From sr Marie of the Sacred Heart to sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) - November 24, 1925

Jesus + 24th November 1925

Dear little sister,

I want to say farewell before Lent though it will go quickly as everything does here below!

You were wondering why we didn’t send a Turn Sister to your Triduum. It was quite simply impossible this time. We only had Sr M. Théophane and Sr Marguerite with us, as Sr Marie Germaine and Sr Marie Joseph had gone home to rest and recover their strength. Sr Marie Germaine has not come back yet. She is still sick and has been in a religious home in Brittany for almost two months now for treatment. As for Sr M. Elisabeth, she cannot travel. You can see how ill-favoured we have been with our Turn Sisters.

Today, little sister, two new postulants entered the monastery. One of them is 24 years old and comes from Sedan. As her baptismal name is Germaine, she is called Sr Germaine of the Sacred Heart. The second is from Brest, and her father is a ship’s captain. Her name Geneviève has become Sr Marie Geneviève of Jesus. She has no dowry, her parents are devout Christians, they have 6 children, and her father is a marine officer.

I’m hoping to be able to enclose what Our Mother wrote to us all yesterday. You’ll see how lovely it is and I’m sure it will do you good. If Sr M. of the Holy Spirit doesn’t have time to copy it, I will send it at a later date.

I also want to tell you that, for a long time now, a kind Missionary Priest, Rev. Fr Boyer of the White Fathers, has been saying Mass for us on each of our two feast days, which in your case means on 29th January, the Feast of St Fr. de Sales and 11th April, the Feast of St Leo, and also for our dead on 30th November.

Today is the anniversary of the death of Mother Thérèse of the Eucharist and of our dear Sister Marie of the Angels. The whole Comm. has been renewed since I’ve been at the Carmel. Only three nuns remain: Sr Aimée of Jesus, Sr Thérèse of St Augustine, and Sr Marie of Jesus. I don’t count our Mother. That reminds me that my turn will soon come.

Dear darling little sister, yes soon we shall all be reunited in heaven. It can’t be long now.

Your eldest sister

Sr Marie of the Sacred Heart
