From Mother Agnes of Jesus to sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) - January 27, 1935

                         J.M.           Carmel of Lisieux 27th January 1935

Beloved little sister,

Happy feast day! I send you a hug to begin with and to conclude. How many times will I do so again before doing it for good in heaven?

Let us be patient, that day will come soon! Thank you, little sister, for your kind letter dated the 24th. It was full of affection and showed that your soul is extremely detached from earth!

Our chaplain is going to see you on Thursday. He will take you two photographs and explain them. He was touched that you wanted to see him.. “What a holy priest,” yes indeed! And he’s so humble! We are very happy to have him. It must have been little Thérèse who sent him to us.

Returning to the subject of your feast day, we will all take Communion for you tomorrow, the 29th. We must devote it to his Lordship’s intentions. If only you knew how devoted the kind bishop is to us! It hurts me that he doesn’t have his health. He almost never sleeps. I’ve never trusted a Superior as much I do him. And how is your health, little sister? You don’t mention it. Here, Sr Marie of the S.H. is no better, but how she edifies us in her patience and lovely smile!

Our Lord has been so badly offended that we mustn’t be surprised if we have to suffer. It’s a blessing. Like you, we are very distraught by all the news that reaches us from outside. It shows the devil’s rage. But when he gets enraged like this it means that, in one way or another, God is much loved and glorified. We don’t see everything and as Fr Desbuquois said so well, He’s the one who triumphs at every moment. A loving act repairs over a thousand cries of hate, and therefore brings more joy to Jesus’ Heart than a thousand blasphemies sadden it.

Once again, happy feast day, beloved little sister. Your memory is very dear to us because your soul belongs entirely, unreservedly, to God.

Your little Sister and Mamma

Sr Agnes of Jesus

Assure those around you of my respectful and very fraternal regards and union in Our Lord.
