From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Sr Genevieve (Celine) - August 6th 1935

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 6th August 1935

Dearest little sister,

Happy and holy feast day! Soon we’ll be on Tabor for eternity, and the veil that hides the adorable Face of our Beloved will at last tear in two. The supreme consolation in exile is the most Holy Eucharist, which is the Sacrament of Love par excellence. Truly, if Jesus had not stayed with us by becoming our daily bread, coming to this sad earth would have been a waste of His time, if I may say so, because despite His mad love, we can say in all truth that Love is not known! Love is not loved! Jesus begs for love, especially from those who are consecrated to Him. All the magnificent Eucharistic congresses we celebrate each year bring Him immense comfort. They prove that faith is not dead and that our divine King of Love reigns despite Satan and his minions. You can be certain that I’ll take Communion for you, darling Céline. It’s the only way to settle all my debts, and what’s more, there’s no better gift I can give you. Is Jesus not our only Treasure?

When I heard your sweet victim had died, I exclaimed, “Blessed be God!” We think it was tuberculosis that reached her brain. A few years ago, one of our younger Sisters had this illness, and thought we wanted to poison her. To our great regret, we had to send her away to oblige her to eat.

It’s Sr Marguerite-Agnès’s fault that we only receive one copy of the Annals on our holy little Thérèse. She told her sister Violette that one subscription was enough, so she also hasn’t received any since April.

A friend of ours would like a relic of our darling saint for a missionary. The missionary would be very happy, for want of better, with a lock of hair. We very much like your Turn Sisters’ new habit. These Sisters are so friendly and very religious!

With my love to you “inseparable sister” and our other dear sisters. All four of us are fused as one in the Sacred Heart of sweet Jesus Christ,

Sr Françoise-Thérèse

The missionary in question, Father Surget, will take his pilgrimage in Lisieux towards 10th August. It is probable he will ask our little Mother for the relic he so ardently desires. His mission is in Haiti.
