+ Jesus of Lisieux 28th July 1935

Darling little sister,

Sr Geneviève isn’t writing to you today, she’s saving herself to reply to your letter dated 6th August. Our Mother informed you of the death of our little Sister Marie of the Bl. Sacrament. How happy she is now to have suffered! She had a steep climb to Calvary, but she died like a little saint and greatly edified the nuns who cared for her. All things come to an end on earth. Even the greatest trials have a glorious end when they are accepted with such great resignation to God’s will. – Yesterday her Jesuit brother came into the monastery and celebrated Mass in the infirmary.

Dear little sister, we heard through Sr M. Germaine that you, too, are suffering on account of that poor Sister of yours . . . . She must be neurasthenic, but what can you do? What a test of patience it must be for the others! Jesus must be looking upon us with great compassion. To encourage us, He said, “What you do for the least of my brothers and sisters, you do for me.” We really do need these divine words to help us practice charity.

Tomorrow is St Martha’s day, the feast of our Lay Sisters. The novices (we only have one) take their place in the kitchen with their Mistress and it works very well.

Tomorrow, the 29th, is the anniversary of our darling Father’s death. I will pray hard to him for our little Visitandine, and for everyone, so that he might help us reach the blessed port, where we’ll all be united for ever more.

Farewell, darling little sister. Remember me to your dear Mothers. – Mass shall be said beside the large reliquary according to your wishes.

Your eldest sister Sr Marie of the Sacred Heart
