LT 107 - To Céline

LT 107 From Thérèse to Céline.

May 19-20, 1890

My dear little Céline,

I have been told to write you to tell you not to come and give us any news about Papa during the retreat for Pentecost. If you were to write us a short note, you would be very kind, and then you could come on Monday to see us. Dear Céline, I am happy for having been given this charge, for I have to tell you how much I think that God loves you and is treating you as one of His privileged souls .... Ah! you can well say that the reward is great in heaven since it is said: "Blessed are you when they persecute you and say falsely all kinds of evil against you." So rejoice and leap for joy! …

Céline, what a privilege to be unknown on this earth! . . . Ah, God's thoughts are not our thoughts. If they were, our life would be only a hymn of thanksgiving! . . .

Céline, do you think St. Teresa received more grace than you? ... As for myself, I shall tell you not to aim for her seraphic sanctity, but rather to be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect!' . .. Ah! Céline, our infinite desires are not, then, either dreams or fancies, since Jesus Himself has given us this commandment! . ..

Céline, don't you find that on this earth there is nothing left for us! Jesus wills to have us drink His chalice to the dregs by leaving our dear Father over there. Ah! let us refuse Him nothing; He has so much need of love and He is so thirsty that he expects from us the drop of water that must refresh Him! . . . Ah! let us give without counting the cost. One day. He will say: "now, my turn."

Thank my dear little Marie very much for her delightful bouquet; tell her that I offered it to Jesus as coming from her, and I asked Him in return to adorn her soul with as many virtues as there are rose buds! . . .

Your little Sister Thérèse of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face
