Carmel of Lisieux, January 27, '97

Monsieur le Directeur,

I am happy to join with my Sister Geneviève in thanking you for the precious favor you obtained for our Carmel.

Not knowing how to express my gratitude, I want to show you how much I was touched by your kindness to us by means of my prayers at Our Lord's feet

A feeling of sadness is mingled with my joy when learning your health was impaired, so I am asking Jesus with my whole heart to prolong your life which is so precious for the Church the longest time possible. I know the divine Master must be eager to crown you in heaven, but I trust He will leave you still in this exile so that, working for His glory as you have done since your youth, the immense weight of your merits may supply for other souls who will present themselves before God with empty hands.

I dare to hope, very dear Brother, I shall be of the number of these blessed souls who will share in your merits. I believe my course here below will not be long... when I shall appear before my Beloved Spouse, I shall have only my desires to offer Him, but if you have preceded me into the homeland, I trust you will come to meet me and offer for me the merits of your very fruitful works. ... You see, your little Carmelites cannot write you without asking some favor and without making an appeal to your generosity!!!...

Monsieur le Directeur, you are so powerful for us on earth, you have already obtained our Holy Father Leo XIII's blessing for us so many times that I cannot refrain from thinking that in heaven God will give you a very great power over His Heart. I beg you not to forget me in His presence if you have the joy of seeing Him before I do... The only thing I beg you to ask for my soul is the grace of loving Jesus and of making Him loved as much as this is possible for me.

If it be myself whom the Lord comes to look for first, I promise to pray for your intentions and for all the persons who are dear to you. However, I am not awaiting heaven for offering this prayer, right now I am happy to be able to prove my deep gratitude in this way.

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus, I shall always be happy to call myself, Monsieur le Directeur,

Your little grateful Carmelite, Sister Thérèse of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face rel. carm. ind.
