My dear King,

I know that the diamond wrote you a note, and that is why I am not going to speak to you very long, for your poor Queen would be eclipsed by the splendor of the Diamond.... I only have to repeat to you that I love you as though you did not know it as yet; and, then, how could a Queen not love her King and a King like you, so holy, so good. Yes, you are as holy as St. Louis himself. . . .

Thanks, dear little Father, for all you have given to me, the beautiful shovel, etc., etc.,. . .and all that follows. . . .

Do you recall, Papa, when at Genoa we were shadowing from a distance M. Benoit and the others? Ah! what fun we had. The memory of this beautiful trip made with my dear little Father will always remain with me.

I kiss you, dear King.

Your Queen of France and Navarre.
