LT 54 - To Agnes of Jesus

LT 54                  From Thérèse to Agnes of Jesus.

July 4 (?), 1888

J. M.J.T.

The bleating of Jesus' dear lamb has resounded like sweet music in the ears of the little lamb! . . . Where, then, has the lamb learned Cecilia's melody?

Eternity, oh! the little lamb is plunged into it; following the lamb, it tries to advance by leaps, but the road must be opened up for it by the sweet lamb's music.

The grain of sand, in spite of its littleness, wishes to form beautiful Eternities; it wishes to form some for the souls of sinners, but, alas, it is still not little enough or light enough.

The palm of Agnes is needed for the lamb and the little lamb, and if this is not through blood, then it has to be through love.... That is the dream of the grain of sand!. . .

Jesus alone! Nothing but Him. The grain of sand is so little that, if it wanted to place someone other than Him in its heart, there would be no room for Jesus....

May the white Lamb pray for the unknown grain of sand in order that in eternity it may become brilliant and bright.
