JEAN D'AULON

Joan, victory seems assured to me; in a matter of days you have known how to transform the army. There was no one, not
even the old La Hire, who did not want to go to Confession and receive Communion before the battle.

JOAN

Jean d'Aulon, it is not I who has worked these wonders. God alone could thus change the hearts of these brave soldiers, and my venerable confessor, Br. Jean Pasquerel, has done much to convert them. Right now I fear nothing; I have only brave men to command, since God Himself lives in them.

JEAN D'AULON

However, much patience is required of you, for if all the great men of the court fear and respect you, there is a great number of others who harbor a secret jealousy. You've already had very painful proofs of that.... It seems to them so hard to obey a girl!...

JOAN

That's true. Count Dunois deceived me in passing with the army by the Sologne region and not, as I had ordered him, di­rectly to the front where the English are.... But I have no fear, the counsel of my God is more certain than that of the great ones of the world. He has a book in which no cleric reads, how­ever
