From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - May 21st 1899

Dear little sisters,

How sweet it is to be filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Like you, I have just come out of retreat and the Spirit of Love has given me many insights. I consider one in particular as being very precious and specific to my progression: reverence and advance preparation for silent prayer. It requires great mortification of the senses, but since the Holy Spirit demands this of His poor little Visitandine, He has given me the means to succeed. After all, He knows my weaknesses and difficulties better than I, so He will become my strength. It does so much good to surrender oneself to Him unreservedly and be constantly attentive to His divine breath.

Beloved sisters, I soon hope to announce my Reception of the Holy Habit at last. As for the names of our dear little saint, which you would like me to take, I think I can tell you that your wish was pre-empted and understood even before I joined this convent by my considerate and dear Mothers. Yes, I have two Mothers who are very caring. To me they are a living image of Jesus’ loving Heart; their own hearts have been modelled on His.
