From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters – June 8th 1900

[8thJune 1900]

So here it comes, beloved little sisters, the most wonderful day of my life is drawing near. I’m looking forward to it with unparalleled happiness. I can assure you that I won’t give myself to Jesus by halves. It’s either all or nothing! I would rather not take my profession if it was otherwise. But before accomplishing this great act, let me tell you again how sorry I am, and ask your forgiveness, for the great and countless sorrows I’ve caused you. I can’t forget that I had an odious childhood, so in my heart I feel the need to fulfil this duty to you, dearest sisters. Otherwise, I would not be perfectly happy or at peace when I walked to the Lord’s altar; something would be missing from my happiness.

I would also like to have your blessing, and with that in mind, what I thought was this: since the three of you are making my crown, I desire that you bless it when it’s finished.

At 9 in the morning on 2ndJuly, I’ll be giving myself unreservedly to Jesus through Mary. This day is dear to me in several respects because it’s the patronal feast of our Order and also the anniversary of my two elder sisters’ 1stCommunion. How touched I was by your letters! The one from darling Agnes brought tears to my eyes . . . .
