From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - March 23rd, 1913

Holy Day of Easter 1913 [23rd March]

Beloved little sisters,

Six weeks is a very, very long time to go without saying a word, so I’m running to you not singing lamentations this time but a joyful alleluia!

So what’s happening in Rome? I look forward to your letters, which are always very full of the most highly interesting details.

How are you, and how was your harsh Lent? My thoughts and heart turned to you so many times! I often ask myself, in confusion, “What efforts do I make in comparison to my three little sisters?” And this renews my spirit of fervour, because our Mother forbids great measures of austerity.

It is Tuesday today, and we’re celebrating the Jubilee of one of our Lay Sisters, Sr Marie Geneviève. She is 73, which isn’t very old, and she is goodness personified. She renewed her holy vows in such a clear and earnest voice that we were all deeply moved. Tears ran down my cheeks, but not from any desire to celebrate my fiftieth anniversary here below. 87 is much too old; I would think that God had forgotten me!

Little Mother, do you remember this dear Sister whom you saw ten years ago? The sweet memory of you has remained here among us, and especially in the heart of your little sister and child.
