From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - February 24th 1927

24th February 1927

Beloved little sisters,

Yes, let us praise heaven for our holy Aunt of Le Mans. What a matchless golden anniversary this is, because all four of us are the brides of her adored Jesus. With her, we should give great thanks (especially me, the wicked child) for such a matchless and merciful favour. Jesus has looked upon all of us, chosen us, and loved us . . . . Eternity will be too short to thank Him for it.

We love the article in the Annals that contains details on Thérèse’s life. We are all in awe of so much unseen virtue, and her sublime confession that she had never committed a single voluntary fault. Ah, how rare that is and what holiness it presupposes!

All three of you are therefore going into the wilderness with the Beloved. I go with you in mind and spirit. The season of Lent leads us very naturally into it.

Yes, darling little Mamma, I am often a little melancholy. It’s the basis of my character, you know, and you mustn’t take any notice. I find exile very long. It’s laziness. I would like to rest and rejoice in God without having deserved it, and, in short, go to Him empty-handed. Jesus knows that even if I lived for a thousand years, I would still be as poor as I am now. I surrender myself to His mercy since I am the little victim of His merciful love.

Happy anniversary, darling little Céline. It’s already been 31 years since you were professed. That carries weight with God!

As for “Novissima Verba”, it’s so delightful! We are very pleased to have this treasure.

With my love to all three of you, and an infinity of kisses.
