From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - April 17th 1927

17th April 1927

Dear little sisters,

Alleluia! Alleluia! We sing it in the earthly exile again this year. . .

Our dear Sister Marie-Dosithée left us this morning at the age of 75 to sing it in heaven. She was so generous and surrendered to God’s divine pleasure! How edifying it was, especially during these last months, to see her painfully climb her Calvary with such admirable resignation.

As for our beloved Mother, her condition is still improving slightly, thanks to God. Yet we have noticed that every time one of our Sisters is administered Extreme Unction, the emotion gives her heart palpitations, which is what happened with our dear deceased Sister. This is delaying her full recovery. As for me, I am under no illusion. Unless there’s a miracle, our darling Mother will never return to how she was before the attack, so we are anxious as the elections draw nearer. Alas! Will we be able to reelect her, according to our right, and enjoy another three years under her charge? Only God knows . . . .

I’m looking forward to hearing your news. I doubt you will be able to accomplish your rigorous Lent. I only fasted once a week, which is enough, because I am often tired from my holy duties in the sacristy. But what a joy it is to grow tired in the service of Jesus, working directly in connection with the liturgy held in His honour and decorating His altars on feast days. – Happy and Holy Birthday on the 28th, darling little Céline. I hope Thérèse showers you with roses on that day.
