From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - July 2nd 1929

V + J! From our monastery in Caen – this 2nd July 1929

Dearest little sisters,

I’ve been told to expect a visitor tomorrow. I’m hurrying to write to you and to send you my greatest affection. Today is the 29th anniversary of my profession, the 60th anniversary of your 1st Communion, dear eldest sister, and the 58th anniversary of that of our little Mother. My word, what a flood of graces!

Is the building work coming along quickly? Are you having any trouble on that side of things? No doubt you are, because it’s the seal of God’s works. I pray so hard that you don’t have any. This is the only way I can help you, so I put all my heart into it.

Are you pleased with the new Vicar General? Do you like him? Does he love our little St Thérèse? What is most important is that His Excellency is completely on her side, which is the case, thanks to God.

We are preparing to celebrate our beloved Mother’s feast day on 12th August, and before that, there is to be a temporary profession. Candidates are few and far between despite us needing Sisters for all ranks. Education nowadays does not promote religious vocations.

Hurry and give me your news, darling little sisters. As you see, mine is good. How I look forward to seeing you again up above, where we’ll never be parted! Time goes by so slowly. Oh, exile is weighing so heavily upon me!

With love from the bottom of my increasingly loving heart,

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
