From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - November 21st 1929

V + J! From our monastery in Caen this 21st November 1929

Dearest little sisters,

We are in ineffable union today, since together we have renewed our holy vows. I have done so 29 times now, and you, many more still. What a blessing! Jesus, the divine Spouse has gazed upon all of us and loved us with a preferential love. Our matchless Mamma’s prayer has been answered in full because the five children left to her are all consecrated to Him (even the unruly little devil). This truly is a miracle obtained by our two saints, Thérèse of the Child Jesus and our Visitandine aunt. I, more than anyone else, should bury myself in my humble insignificance and melt out of love and gratitude to God. I really was sorry to have to send back darling little Mamma’s chapter homily, but it still does me a great deal of good as I can remember the main points. Many, many thanks for having shared your private talks with us like this.

Tell me, dear little sisters, what do you think of the book by Father Renaud entitled In the Footsteps of St Thérèse of the Child Jesus? Do you like it? If so, I’d very much like to read it; if not, then I very probably won’t like it either.

In the refectory we have just read the very edifying biography of dear Sister Thérèse of Saint Augustine. We like it very much. What a generous soul she was! Apparently she was the one who was such a struggle for our Saint.

Our little novitiate is growing at last. We have two temporarily professed Sisters and four postulants, one of whom used to be a novice at the Carmel of Gravigny. This poor child came to us feeling very defeated on 14thSeptember. She is getting back on her feet very quickly here (which proves her vocation). Our dearest Mother was given excellent references of her from her former Rev. Mother Prioress, and she is indeed a charming little Sister. Our revered former Superior is feeling quite rejuvenated being amongst her lambs again and a few little doves are still flying around the blessed Ark.

Yes, darling little Mamma, I’m going to take advantage of your fragrant bouquet, with the help of your prayers. Jesus will be pleased with the poor little manger that is my heart.

I love you so much, darling trio

Sr Françoise-Thérèse

I don’t know how to thank you for all the calendars and pictures. We really appreciate them. But when will Mgr Germain send us the almanac mentioned in the Annals? Sr Marguerite-Agnes and I are like excited children waiting for it to arrive. The piece in bronze is so pretty. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
