V+J! 7th August 1924

My darling Céline,

I’m taking advantage of this opportunity to tell you that as of yesterday, your feast day, you have a charming little goddaughter who, at the reception of the Holy Habit, took the sweet names Marie Céline. Are you pleased? This dear little Sister is a total orphan, which is why we show her all the more affection. Do you know what the name Celine means? Well, it means “little”, “hidden”, and so I love it even more. Your delightful card arrived just in time for me to hurry and give it to your little goddaughter, and she is thrilled with it.

Thank you for your dear letter and for your trust in me. I understand you very well, too. I love you more than words could ever say. Our four hearts are so perfectly united in Jesus that it’s already heaven . . . . It’s fortunate that the photographs from the book in question are all but faded; I hope they fade away completely, because these prints of our little saint’s portrait couldn’t be any worse. It’s not her at all.

The two pictures enclosed are for our dearest little missionaries. I am thinking of you in these difficult days leading up to their departure . . . . But what wouldn’t we do for Jesus? . . . . Everything is His, even our lives.

Isn’t Sr Marie of the Child Jesus one of Thérèse’s miracles?

Isn’t that Fr Travert in the group of Italian priests?

I send you all my love and unparalleled affection,

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
