V + J! This 18th August 1930

Darling Céline,

I understand you so well, but pray for me that I might become detached like you. I still have so far to go! Alas, my loving heart still clings to things so easily.

Yes, it must have been in ’86 that we went to St Denis. That year we were lavished with all manner of attentions and we went from manor to manor. Marie Romet was just a little girl. She wasn’t very pretty but very kind and very distinguished. It’s so strange that her husband, a multi-millionaire, didn’t donate anything for the Basilica. You see, you can’t count on the rich because they are least generous.

I received the picture of our ravishing baby on a little card. It’s for our archives. Thank you! Thank you also for the surprise you sent for our revered Mother’s feast day, which is next Monday.

I send all my love and kisses to my dearly beloved trio.

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
