From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – January 21st 1926

21st January 1926

Beloved little Mamma,

I’m sending you my wishes for a happy feast day a week early and this is for two reasons: my filial heart enjoys being the first at the family gathering, and also, by taking advantage of the opportunity that has presented itself today, I’m sure that my letter won’t get lost.

Darling Mamma, I always give you the same wonderful bouquet. It’s so wonderful that there’s no gift more precious I can give you. Did not Jesus call Himself “the Wildflower and Lily of the Valley”? I will therefore take three Communions for you, and I will place these three flowers in the hands of Mary, our heavenly Mother, so that she can give them to you.

The feast of Saint Sylvester was a very favourable day for me, because despite being extremely unworthy and lacking in know-how, our Mother nominated me to the post of first assistant to the sacristy. So here I am, like Thérèse, fulfilling this choice duty, able to touch the sacred vessels, give the responses to the priest during Mass and, in a word, concern myself with nothing but the Blessed Sacrament! I’m so happy, and I carry out my duty whole-heartedly, with the precious help of my darling saint. Without a doubt, you wouldn’t recognise me, beloved little Mamma; I’m completely transformed.

What a delightful little Jesus you sent me! I thought I would place Him on the heart of my statue of Thérèse sitting down (hands folded on a book). It looks lovely! It completes the statue. Thank you again for the lovely pictures of the Sacred Heart, but nothing brings me greater pleasure than my little Jesus asleep on His Cross.
