V + J! From our monastery in Caen this 21st January 1929

Darling little Mamma,

It’s always with renewed joy that I see your feast day come around again. And I affectionately come running, in mind and especially in heart, to throw myself into your arms, singing my eternal tune, “I love you,” which I know never bores you.

My feast day bouquet is, as always, composed of three Communions because I can’t think of anything more valuable to give you than Jesus. He makes up for my inadequacy and He alone can settle all my debts towards you, for you never cease spoiling me and showering me with kindness.

We find the Basilica plans splendid. What a joy it is that you can see it from your enclosure. Are you completely rid of the first tactless architect? I’ve prayed so hard you would be.

I like the letter from His Excellency very much. How fortunate we are to have such a holy Bishop!

It’s so cold! Dear little sisters, thinking of you helps me to be generous because I’m as jumpy as a cricket; I can hardly hold my pen to write.

I’m sending you the kind priest’s card, little Mamma, so that when you have a chance, you can reply to him and thank him on my behalf for the pictures and illustrated booklet he kindly send me.

I’m also relying on you to thank Rev. Fr Granger for his catechism. I’m asking you to do this out of obedience to our dear eldest sister, because she advised me in no uncertain terms to avoid replying to such people myself, and to refer them to you, saying that you would be happy to deal with them.

What a relief this is for me! I’m so grateful to you!!! I find writing extremely tiring.

Farewell, darling little Mamma. We are fused into one in Him, so we can never be parted. Your very loving little daughter who loves you immensely
