Details on the illness of Sr Françoise-Thérèse Martin

13th December 1930

Dear Reverend Mother,

Our dear Sister did not have a bad night, but the doctor came at 9 o’clock this morning and is not satisfied with his patient’s condition. She had a coughing fit (after receiving Holy Communion this morning) which worried us a little, and she has difficulty swallowing the Eucharist, even though she has only been receiving half a host for the past two days, out of precaution. But she follows everything that happens around her and is worried about our Most Honourable Sr Marie-Thérèse de Colomby who had a temperature of 40° this morning. As you can see, dear Mother, God is sorely trying us. Nearly all of us are suffering, or have suffered, from this flu epidemic.

6 in the evening. – Our dear patient is no worse, but told us herself that it would be more sensible to sacrifice Communion tomorrow. She is very calm and wholly surrendered.
