From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – September 7th 1931

V + J! From our monastery in Caen this 7th September 1931

Beloved little Mother,

With what joy and what filial and fraternal love the three of us come to wish you a happy 70thbirthday, because for your jubilee in less than three years’ time, God alone knows whether your trio will be with you. We shall surely be present, but you mustn’t count on us being visible.

In the meantime, let’s rejoice in our happiness, which is great I assure you. Our revered Mother, former Superior, two little Sisters Marguerite-Agnès and Joseph-Marie, and the whole Community, together with everyone at the dearest Carmel of Lisieux, join me in warmly wishing you a happy birthday. Darling little Mamma, I shall take as many Communions for you as there are little flowers in our letters. You see, my birthday bouquet couldn’t be any more beautiful or valuable, because it’s composed of our Sovereign Beloved in His sacrament of love.

Little Mother, I have a feeling that you and darling little Céline will live for a very long time in this exile before flying away to the heavenly Homeland. Yet your immortal crowns will be no less beautiful or glorious for all that, because you will have fought harder and suffered more for God.

You know that our Martin and Guérin grandparents died at a very old age. That is why I believe we shall live for a long time, too. Whatever the case may be, my desire to go and possess God, our supreme treasure, is increasingly vehement. There is a lot of alloy inside me, I can feel it, and this is what deeply pains and saddens me, because God is punishing me by leaving me here to languish, although He does so out of mercy and to purify me. I love His holy will above all things. He knows this because He’s the One who places it in my heart. What a martyrdom it is! Do pray for me, darling little sisters, so that I might sanctify myself through trials, which I love through thick and thin. May our little Saint Thérèse shower our shared little Mother with graces and blessings on this day.

Sr Françoise-Thérèse

from her naughty little daughter, whose heart is nevertheless very warm.
