From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - September 8th 1932

Dearly beloved little sisters,

This month is full of anniversaries that are very dear to our hearts. Yesterday, darling little Mamma, you were 71 years old, and I took Communion for you most fervently. It was 42 years ago today that our matchless little Thérèse irrevocably united herself with Jesus. The copy of the beautiful and touching painting, which is hanging in the Chapter, is widely admired. Poor Mother Marie de Gonzague; she was far from imagining that one day she would be honoured like this on account of Thérèse, the holy child who pronounced her heavenly vows in her hands. It is with God, by the light of eternity, that she appraises all things now.

We were pleased to receive the photos of the celebrations in Lisieux. Thank you for your generosity in sending us several. You give to us so freely.

Our dear Sisters of Annecy were enchanted with their pilgrimage to Lisieux, and with the warm, fraternal welcome they received from you. We knew very well what awaited them. And yet the purest of joys here below are always marred by trial: they weren’t able, to their great regret, to visit the superb crypt because it was closed. It’s understandable. Only in heaven will happiness be unadulterated. That is why I keep repeating that my exile is long . . . I sense that Jesus understands me. My cry says everything.

I send you all my love, darling little sisters

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
