From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - July 9th 1933

V + J! From our monastery in Caen this 9th July 1933

Dear little sisters,

I’m taking advantage of dear Miss Violette’s trip (she’s so kind to me) to sing the same old tune to you again: I love you!!! It was the thirty-third anniversary of my profession on 2nd July, and also the 19th centenary of the Redemption, 1933. Isn’t that charming and touching? This year might be the last of my pilgrimage here on earth, God willing. I could ask for nothing more because you see I’m not intending to miss the train again. Once is more than enough. Far from being afraid of the divine Thief, I’m tempted to say, “Here I am, here I am,” to Him over and over again. The more perfect thing for me to do would be to keep quiet. He knows my burning desire; that’s enough, and what’s more, I fear offending Him if I stray from my little way of self-surrender.

A little novice joined us on 27th June. Her name is Marie-Céline. What a charming and lovely name!

Our beloved Mother’s feast day has been arranged for 10th August. The celebration cannot be on St Teresa’s Day because the 15th October is right in the middle of our annual solitary retreats.

I love our dear Mother very, very much. We were in the novitiate together. There is always a greater feeling of closeness between little birds that come from the same nest.

Farewell in God! We love each other in Him.

Sr Françoise-Thérèse Martin

What has become of our cousin Alphonsine? Has she died? She must be very, very old. Do you like the hymn about the Virgin of the Smile that we sent you?
