From sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – May 8, 1934

8th May 1934

Beloved little Mother,

We cannot separate the Jubilee of little “Mamma Pauline” from that of her little Thérèse. Thérèse asked for Jesus, and Jesus gave Himself to Thérèse. Jesus asked for Agnes, and Agnes gave herself to Jesus (The delightful picture is kept in our archives, like a precious relic). If 8th May 1884 was a celebration more heavenly than earthly, today’s is by far more wonderful and glorious. 8th May 1934 is a blessed celebration, crowning all the others. . Darling little Mamma, I can’t express all the daughterly and sisterly love I have for you in my heart. I know that in the present case, silence is more eloquent than anything I could say. That’s why I’m not worrying, sure that you, in your kind, motherly heart, always understand me. Together with our two little Sisters Marguerite-Agnès and Joseph-Marie, we offer you this very modest spiritual bouquet. It is little like your three little sisters but also very large as a result of their affection:

150 Participations in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass

9 Thanksgiving Communions

150 Te Deums and 150 Magnificats

150 Our Fathers and 150 Hail Marys

150 Gloria Patris

150 Invocations to Our Lady of Good Counsel

150 Invocations to the Virgin of the Smile

150 Invocations to St Joseph

150 Invocations to the Nine Choirs of Angels

150 Invocations to all the Saints

150 Invocations to St Thérèse of the Child Jesus

150 Invocations to St Teresa of Avila

150 Invocations to St John of the Cross

150 Invocations to St Francis de Sales

150 Invocations to St Agnes

150 Invocations to Bl. Margaret Mary

150 Invocations to the Holy Face

150 Invocations to the Sacred Heart

50 Offices to the Sacred Heart

Our beloved Mother’s letter will be accompanied by ones from our revered Former Superiors. They cannot be differentiated in terms of their unchanging love for you, and the link between them is our little Thérèse on this unforgettable, double jubilee celebration. Our dearest Mother will allow us a recreation. How thoughtful of her! You can see that the union between us is growing ever stronger. In truth, we can say that it’s at its peak; for a long time now, our two families have formed but one.

We are sending you a few objects for the missions in answer to your request, but we want to do more, so our Mother thought to enrich your library with the wonderful, absolutely fascinating and perfectly documented biography of our Revered Mother Françoise-Madeleine de Chaugy. Our Chaplain was largely involved in its creation because he’s a researcher and quite exceptional writer.

It’s a significant grace that all three of us can be with you, matchless little Mother, for your golden anniversary. Your heart, which we know is very loving, is ever so dear to us and forms but one with ours.

I am absent only in body, which is nothing. Only my heart and soul count, and there is no obstacle too great to stop them . . . .

Together with our two little sisters, I send you my love, which, I think, is a foretaste of the eternal love that we’ll share in heaven.

Happy birthday for 22nd February and 28th April, dates that are still dear to my heart. A Eucharist has been offered for each little sister.

Sr Françoise-Thérèse

Darling little Mamma, don’t worry. You’ll see, our beloved Spouse will be immensely glorified by this double jubilee, you’ll feel it. It will be, for both you and us, a heavenly day. Thérèse will support you so well that material worries will barely trouble you.

I love you so much and I’m extremely happy to know you are loved, revered and feted so well. It’s your fault, after all! You have no less than what you deserve.

200 francs for dessert; imagine that. You’ve given us no less than a wedding feast. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Thank you, thank you also for the invaluable pictures!
