From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Sr Marie of the Sacred Heart – June 8, 1934

V+J! From our monastery in Caen on the Feast of the Sacred Heart 1934 [8th June]

Beloved little sister,

As you know, I come with all my affection as your daughter and sister for your feast day, and press myself against your heart singing the same old tune again, “I love you!” Darling Sister, in the Communion I’ve already taken for you, I sensed that Jesus loved you very much, that you were His favoured one, and that after this sad exile you would go straight to His Heart without detour. This is because I’m convinced that you are serving your purgatory on earth by living a crucified life, one that you have so generously and, I can honestly say, joyfully accepted. No, I don’t think you will celebrate your golden anniversary here below. Your immortal crown will be complete within four years. Jesus and our little Thérèse are placing the last little buds on it, buds which will only blossom in heaven.

Darling sister, to amuse you, I’m sending you this mischievous little quatrain, which is very kind, but also very cruel. It was accompanied by three magnificent roses. Here are a few of their petals. Can you see me living a hundred and one years? If I did, I would undoubtedly see the end of the world.

To think that Jeanne gave you only three bunches of asparagus for our little Mother’s golden anniversary dinner! It’s shameful. I should like it if our Uncle, who was so generous, appeared before her and berated her for being so miserly towards you. And yet poor Jeanne has a good heart. She loves us well enough. I forgot to tell you in my last letter about all the affection I was shown on 8th May by all the Sisters here. Our dearest Mother had the kindness to take me with her everywhere, except to the choir, because I’m an Associated Sister, that is to say I don’t recite the Office any more.

Mrs Lecourt gave us the Mass fees for the second of July. Miss Violette will give them back to you on her next trip.

With my love, beloved little sisters. Our mutual affection is a foretaste of heaven.
