From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – January 14th 1936

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 14th January 1936

Beloved little Mother,

It would upset you too much to hear it from the death announcement, so I’m informing you now that our beloved Former Superior Marie-Aimée de Songnis, who governed our religious family for twelve years, has gone to heaven. I was her first professed nun in her duty as Novice Mistress and I’m very proud of this. O God, give me the grace to imitate her for she was a real saint; a living model of the Rule. The last months of her life inspired particular admiration in us.

She welcomed all the suffering that her paralysis caused her with a heavenly smile. Never did the shadow of irritation ever betray her invincible patience.

It is with sweet and not bitter tears that I send you my best feast day wishes. Jesus will bless them in the three Communions I took for you and return the many favours you keep heaping on your little sister and increasingly loving daughter. My heart will ultimately burst, carrying me away to the resting place of unending love. What joy there’ll be when we leave this valley of tears and are reunited in our Heavenly Father’s home.

Darling little Mother, please inform dear Mrs Lecourt of the news, because for her and her daughter, the death announcement would be too painful a shock.

Our dear little Sister Joseph-Marie, who loves you very deeply, sends you her most respectful feast day wishes and, even more importantly, her heart-felt affection.

Should I send Marguerite’s letter back to you? You can tell how anxious she is to save her poor husband’s soul!

With fond kisses to all three of you, beloved little sisters. What a foretaste of heaven it is to love Jesus alone! Your little visitandine

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
