From sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three sisters in the Carmel - May 17, 1936

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 17th May 1936

Darling little sisters,

We are bound in an ineffable union on these, the glorious anniversaries of our Thérèse. When, then, will we go and join her? That is God’s secret. In all truth, our longing for heaven wouldn’t be so great.

I was looking forward to hearing about the 30th from our dear Jubilarian, so I was delighted with her affectionate little note and the charming booklet on the Little Way. What a heavenly doctrine it is! You can never have too much of it.

Happy feast day, dearest Sister, on this day of the Holy Trinity. It’s the 62nd anniversary of my 1st Communion, and I will happily take one for you.

It’s next Saturday that our dear Mother is standing down, though I hope with all my heart that it will only be for 5 days; let’s pray hard to the Holy Spirit of Love. It’s customary that our elections for Mother Superior are always under the Spirit’s protection, because they are held during the Pentecost retreat and novena.

We’ll send you the results of our election immediately.

There are rumours going round, dear little sisters. One of our Sisters heard in the visiting room that you don’t have any Turn Sisters left because, since the new code was issued, the rules are too severe and austere for them to follow, and so they all fall sick. What is to be made of all this gossip? It makes no sense.

On 3rd June, I’ll be entering my 74th year. I’m very well despite the shaking. What about you, my dear little old ladies? Send me your news very soon. You leave me fasting for too long.

In the meantime, my heart remains young in its love for you.

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
