From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - July 12th 1936

V + J! From our monastery in Caen this 12th July 1936

Darling little sisters,

The dentist sister really is kind. We had a very good talk. I’m glad she is so devoted to you, and I thanked her warmly. We greatly admired the charming miniature garden that you sent for our dear Mother’s feast day, which we will joyfully celebrate on 17th and 18th August. It is imperative that our Thérèse and her beloved Carmel are with us.

Little sisters, what do you make of the petal that was found at our darling saint’s burial place in July 1923? The Face of Christ really is very clear, visible and moving. The eyes are very expressive; they follow you.

Now that you are under the authority of the Carmelite Friars, how is it possible that the Bishop is still your Superior? I’m very curious, aren’t I? With you, I’m very straightforward. I can’t be otherwise; I love you so much.

My knee is better. We’re burning the skin with iodine, which causes furious itching. Pray hard for your little wimp, for I’m so ungenerous in suffering, and we must comfort our Beloved in this world of infernal hatred.

I am increasingly united to you and more loving than ever,

Sr Françoise-Thérèse

Dear Fr Germain sent us some magnificent photos. Our Mother hasn’t seen them yet; they are a surprise. Do tell our devoted friend how very grateful I am, please.
