From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Sr Genevieve (Celine) - August 6th 1936

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 6th August 1936

Darling Céline,

It’s always with great joy that I write to you each year on your feast day and remind you how much I love you. You can count on having a Communion from me. Jesus in the Eucharist is the only piece of heaven we have here below. Dear little sister, I can sense that soon we shall all be together again up above. Exile is weighing heavier and heavier on me. Our sweet Saviour is not known or loved. A relentless hatred fills the universe. We have some martyrs in Spain; 7 of our Sisters were electrocuted. As they died, they prayed for their persecutors. What bliss it must have been to fly to Paradise all together like that! Isn’t it enviable?

We’re preparing for our dearest Mother’s feast day on 18th August. Your little Turn Sister misled you by mentioning 18th July. Our beloved Mother no doubt had an urgent need for a Holy Mass said for her intentions, and also the Communions of our dearly beloved Carmelites. It’s impossible to have a celebration without you.

At the moment, my thoughts keep turning to our holy Visitandine Aunt. The memory of her fervent religious life is very present, and as I follow the same rule, I ask her to help me be constant and generous in my faithfulness, because this is where I fail so often. Pray for me, darling little sisters, for you, too, can help me conquer my cowardice.

Yes, little Céline, our elderly Turn Sister, dear Sister Claire-Françoise remembers you very well and has very fond memories of you.

We affectionately thank dear Sister Madeleine of St Joseph for sending us the Memento prayer for her beloved sister. (How beautiful her heaven must be!)

Our dear Mother will still have some very lovely surprises for her feast day. She hasn’t seen the precious parcel’s contents.

With my love, my inseparable darling, and the fondest of kisses

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
