From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - September 29th 1936

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 29th September 1936

Beloved little sisters,

I knew you would write for this matchless anniversary; I was looking forward to it. We were moved to tears by your generous donation. It will allow us to have a feast in the refectory tomorrow, and will therefore prolong our celebration for our sweet little queen, who is increasingly loved and exulted. The day will be particularly moving considering the sad times we’re living in. Our only refuge is the Sacred Heart of our adored King, Jesus Christ.

The painting showing Godmother (Marie, Thérèse’s godmother) with her little goddaughter is most delightful. We would be very grateful if we could each have a picture of it. I can well remember the graceful and heavenly scene that was recreated the following day, 23rd May.

We feel it is indiscreet of us to keep sending you all these sachets from our Mother’s feast day. We made 18,000 of them. We thought you would like to have a large supply of them for the Congress.

I will leave you, though without really leaving you, darling little sisters. We recommend our retreats, which begin this evening, to your prayers. I am in the first group, so I’m taking mine at the same time as our dearest eldest sister. What joy!!! Give my sincere thanks to Canon Germain for the lovely picture he sent as a keepsake of the anniversary of his ordination. I am very touched by his kind thought.

From your little visitandine who loves you so very dearly

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
