From sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – August 19, 1937

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 19th August 1937

Beloved little Mother,

The charming little broach was placed at the foot of the statue of our little Saint Thérèse, in the outside chapel. We have reason to think that it was given to decorate the magnificent monstrance in the Basilica.

I was caught off-guard. The autobiography of Thérèse that the Lisieux Abbey sent us is in English. It’s fortunate we have an English Sister among us.

We haven’t yet received the August issue of the Annals. The staff are on holiday and resting no doubt. If only you knew how much the review is desired and appreciated here.

Your letter, darling Céline, is delightful, as is your picture of the Holy Face. I prefer to see Jesus suffering while I’m in this earthly exile. I’m peacefully awaiting the heavenly shore where we shall contemplate Him in all His glory.

Farewell, my increasingly beloved sisters. I’ll always be with you. I never stop thinking about our darling Godmother (Marie, Thérèse’s godmother). How I wish I could alleviate her suffering, and take away her pain, but alas, God can’t do anything with a wimp like me.

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
