V + J! From our Caen monastery this 14th October 1937

Dearest eldest sister,

It’s to you I’m writing today, because tomorrow is the 51st anniversary of the day you entered your most blessed ark, the glory of which has spread throughout the whole universe.

Darling sister, your life in exile has been prolonged, but your heaven will be so very beautiful! Jesus is still perfecting his chosen diamond; soon it will be to His taste. Who can tell how eagerly and lovingly He will insert it into His Sacred Heart? There is just one thing that makes me love this poor earthly life, and that is that we can keep offering our Beloved something to drink, whereas in heaven, we can only receive. I’m sure you share my opinion. – Here is the result of my retreat. It was void of consolation, so at least I’m spared all illusions. Dwelling on my faults as I have done until now is a complete waste of time. I recognise that to do so is foolish pride. Our Holy Founder said, “It’s no wonder that frailty is frail.” I must therefore become humble and not complain. I want to be very, very little! Little children fall without doing themselves great harm because they’re too small. They are the model I want to imitate. Jesus expects this of me, I can tell.

In conclusion, I resolve to stop focusing on my sensitivity. Tiny children don’t have such traits. I will lovingly gaze upon God as my sovereign, my Everything, and turn away from things that concern only me.

As for our divine beggar of love, He is met with infernal hatred everywhere. It’s enough to make one weep tears of blood.

Father Exupère is going to be overjoyed to receive the precious relic so beautifully mounted. Thank you, darling little Mamma.

I haven’t forgotten it’s Céline’s feast day on the 26th. We will be in touch again before Advent, I hope. Yet in truth we’re always together, aren’t we, beloved Godmother? [Marie was Thérèse’s godmother]

Thank you, dear little Sister Marie of the Trinity, for your lovely pious pictures!
