From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – April 28th 1938

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 28th April 1938

Beloved little Mother,

Of course I understand, but what do you expect? Jeanne no doubt loved us well enough. She was very affectionate but she lived only for Solange and her brother. Without Jeanne, what would have become of the poor children once they had been abandoned by their real mother?

I’m praying hard that everything will be sorted out for the best and that everything you stand to inherit from little Sr Marie of the Eucharist reaches you intact and without the slightest difficulty. You know what an expert our uncle was in these matters, so you have nothing to fear on this point. Dear Uncle was very fair and loved his little Carmel deeply. Let us pray and have trust in him.

Darling little Mother, I’m in a great deal of pain. My feet and legs are not serving me well. I need a stick to walk, and so share a trait with our beloved Godmother [Marie, Thérèse’s godmother]. Happy birthday to my darling Céline! She can count on having a Communion from her Léonie.

Like you, little Mamma, I recite our darling saint’s words, “God, You fill me with joy in all that You do.” What comforting words! I send you my unspeakable affection, and the same goes for our two little sisters, of course.

Jeanne died a very edifying death. It is indeed very regrettable that she will be buried on the anniversary of Thérèse’s beatification. Hélène Houdayer kindly wrote to me three times during her brief illness.

Your little Sr Françoise-Thérèse
